Description

Sodium Acetate (NaOAc), Anhydrous is commonly used in several applications. A formulation with ethanol may be used for the precipitation of nucleic acids. This compound is often used in the preparation of gel stains for protein gel electrophoresis. Effective as a buffer with Acetic acid in the range of pH 3.6 – 5.6. Studies on microbial pili suggest that sodium acetate suppressed K99 production in E. coli strains cultured on a minimal medium. Experiments have shown that when added to food waste composting systems, NaOAc may be effective at counteracting the adverse effects of organic acids produced in the composting process.
