Description

Sodium acetate trihydrate is commonly used in several applications. A formulation with ethanol may be used for the precipitation of nucleic acids. Often used in the preparation of gel stains for protein gel electrophoresis. Effective as a buffer with Acetic acid in the range of pH 3.6 – 5.6. Studies on microbial pili suggest that sodium acetate suppressed K99 production in E. coli strains cultured on a minimal medium. Experiments have shown that when added to food waste composting systems, sodium acetate may be effective at counteracting the adverse effects of organic acids produced in the composting process.
