Description
Sodium BiSulphite is a mixture of sodium bisulfite, NaHSO3 and sodium metabisulfite, Na2S2O5, with antioxidant properties. The oxidative effects of Sodium bisulfite have been observed to induce rapid corneal swelling in the corneal endothelium. The compound has also been used in DNA methylation studies to observe epigenetic changes as well as documenting DNA methylation in whole genome amplification. Sodium bisulfite has also displayed antimicrobial activity through inactivation of glutaraldehyde by forming a less toxic gluataraldehyde-bisulfite complex.
